Vacuum The Grime, Vacuum The Past

Modern era demands high regard to time element. There are lots of things that need to be done. Thus, you have to be organized and tactful in order to finish every thing that is expected of you.
You play several roles – as an employee, spouse, parent and child. All of these roles demand something from you. Each has a set of duties attached. Nonetheless, you have to make the most out of your time.
Sometimes these roles become to demanding that you can hardly accomplish them. As a consequence, you are left in a state of perplexity and adversity.
Good thing though that there are some equipments that can help you make your life easier. Examples of these equipments are cell phones, fax machine, photocopier, washing machine, vacuum cleaner and more.
Speaking of vacuum cleaner, in the present scenario, almost every household has this equipment. It helps families clean up their dwellings. It is cleaning up the easy and fast way.
Have you ever wonder how is it to live without a vacuum cleaner?
In the past, instead of a vacuum cleaner, homemakers used brushes and cloths to clean their house. They have the so-called ‘spring cleaning’ which is an annual clean-up habit. This one is more exhaustive compared to daily or weekly cleaning. This is because they do it manually.
The very first patent paper of a vacuum sweeper was on 1860. Said patent was in the name of Daniel Hess who is a resident of West Union, Iowa.
Hess’ invention has 2 water chambers that seize dust and dirt. However, he called his invention a carpet sweeper not a vacuum cleaner. In this invention, it is said that the air is cleansed while it passes through the equipment. This principle is used by Rexair vacuums.
The very first vacuum cleaner came into the scene through its inventor Ives McAffey in the year 1869 in Chicago. It was a hand-pumped vacuum cleaner called ‘Whirlwind’. You can find a replica of the latter in Hoover Historical Center found in Canton, Ohio.
His invention has most of the components of today’s vacuum cleaner. The only lacking is the motor. McAffey has only incorporated a motor in the early 1900′s nonetheless it did not flourish.
In the 20th century, several electric vacuum cleaners were introduced to the market to boost Industrial Revolution.
Cecil Booth, in 1901, invented a gigantic vacuum cleaner powered by an engine. It was so huge that it needs to be mounted on a cart. Booth’s invention was a big hit. In fact, Queen Victoria was one of the inventor’s customers.
Said vacuum cleaner was also given the credit for ending the English Plague in the naval barracks. It was used to remove dust and dirt which are causes of germs. Fortunately, said plague ended.
Since then, the idea of preventing the spread of germs has been adapted in the manufacture of vacuum cleaners.
The first electric version of Booth’s machine was used in 1907. An electric motor was attached to it by Murray Spangler. He also attached fan motor, pillow case, wooden crate and broom handle to it.
One of Spangler’s satisfied customers was the wife of William Hoover. The latter realized the machine’s potential so he bought its patent’s right. Consequently, Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Company came into being in 1908.
Today’s vacuum cleaner brands such as Royal, Kirby, Electrolux, Eureka, Hoover and the likes have been traced to have, vacuum cleaner, existed in the early days of 1920 or earlier.
Robert Thatcher is a freelance publisher based in Cupertino, California. He publishes articles and, vacuum cleaner, reports in various ezines and provides vacuum cleaner resources on http://www.your-vacuum-cleaner.info

How to Inspect a Fireplace Chimney

0

Inspecting and cleaning fireplaces and chimneys is essential for safety and efficiency. Remember, some, vacuum cleaner, projects are better left to professionals, but with basic tools and common sense, you can get a pretty good idea of the condition of yours. StepsRemove, vacuum cleaner, the ashes and debris from the fire box. Brush the, vacuum cleaner, sides and bottom with a stiff broom or chimney brush. Vacuum out the loosened ashes and if possible remove the andirons. Open the screen and glass doors (if so equipped) as wide as possible, and place a large piece of cardboard or a drop cloth in the firebox. Lay on your back and slide into the box as far as you need to so that you can shine a flashlight, vacuum cleaner, up the flue. You are looking, vacuum cleaner, for cracks in masonry, or burn out holes in a metal “insert” type box, as well as the condition of the damper. Have someone operate the damper as you watch to see that it closes and opens smoothly and fits securely in the brackets. You may want to wear safety glasses here, as the damper may be coated with creosote and ash buildup,, vacuum cleaner, which can, vacuum cleaner, drop in your eyes. When you are finished checking the damper, be sure it is in the closed position. Place a drop cloth or large piece of card board in the firebox with the edge taped up or propped at the front to protect the room from material dropping down from the top of the chimney. Close the screen and glass doors if so equipped. Climb a ladder to the roof of your home, and go to the location where the chimney projects up. If it has a rain cover or bird screen, you will need to remove this. Before removing it, be sure to have flashing material on hand to seal it back when you reattach it after you finish. Shine your flashlight down the flue and look for a dangerous buildup of creosote, a combustible brown or black byproduct of wood that accumulates in chimney flues. Using a stiff brush with a long handle attached, start at the top of the chimney brushing the sides, and work your, vacuum cleaner, way down. Unless you, vacuum cleaner, buy or rent a chimney brush, you probably will not be able to completely clean the inside of the chimney, but should be able to dislodge enough of the buildup to let it operate safely. Fashion, vacuum cleaner, an extension tube for a shopvac using a length of PVC pipe so that it can be dropped down to remove the debris you have dislodged from the flue. Most chimneys have a smoke shelf and damper door which prevent this material from dropping all the way to the fire box floor. After cleaning, use the flashlight, vacuum cleaner, to examine the flue for cracks and gaps. Most chimneys are constructed with either a metal pipe flue or a clay chimney liner that comes in 2 foot sections. If you are satisfied there are no visible cracks, replace the chimney cap if it is so equipped, using the, vacuum cleaner, sealant for the flashing removed earlier. Look at the place the chimney ajoins the roof, especially, vacuum cleaner, if it comes through the roof on three or four sides. There will be a flashing here to waterproof the roof system, and often it will become corroded or collect debris which can, vacuum cleaner, cause roof leaks,, vacuum cleaner, and now is a good time to take a look. Climb down the ladder and return to the fireplace. Remove the drop cloth or protective barrier you installed to prevent the soot and ash brushed from the upper flue from being scattered in your room. You should be ready to replace your andirons and build a pleasant warm fire to enjoy. Tips:Do not build a huge roaring fire until you have tested the chimney to make sure it drafts properly and all the masonary has cured, vacuum, vacuum cleaner, cleaner, completely. Use only well seasoned hardwood. Green, wet wood will cause creosote to build up rapidly in the flue. Do not leave the fire unattended, and especially never leave a child in the room with the fire alone. Close the damper as much as possible to slow combustion and save heat when, vacuum cleaner, you are using the fireplace. Warnings:Excess creosote, over 1/8 inch or 3 mm, can ignite in the flue and send flames shooting out the top of the chimney, even causing the home itself to catch on fire. Cracks in a masonry, vacuum cleaner, chimney or corrosion in a metal one can cause house fires. If you use a fireplace for heat, have a carbon monoxide detector nearby. Fireplaces can use up the oxygen in a confined space, especially when there is very little ventilation. Be careful on the roof, and use your, vacuum cleaner, ladder correctly. If you are not comfortable walking on the roof, it is probably too steep for you. Find, vacuum cleaner, a professional to repair, vacuum cleaner, any problems you find that you do, vacuum cleaner, not feel competent doing yourself. The risk of a fire is not worth the cost. Use care if you vacuum out the ash and debris indoors, if the vacuum filter does not do a good job, the room may be filled with black, sooty dust. Things you will need:A good cannister type wet/dry vacuum cleaner with a flexible hose and brush attachments. Drop cloth or cardboard A stiff, vacuum cleaner, brush, the kind sold at home centers for acid washing will usually work fine A length of PVC pipe the same diameter as the shop vac hose to extend down the flue Sealant and nails or screws to reattach the chimney cap if it is removed.
